Luc Nijs is musician-researcher-teacher.

He is currently postdoctoral researcher at IPEM (Ghent University, Belgium), PhD Student at Royal Conservatory Antwerp, and guest lecturer in Music Educational Technology at the Royal Conservatory The Hague (The Netherlands), in Kinemusical Improvisation at
Royal Conservatory Antwerp, and former (guest) lecturer Luca School of Arts Leuven (Belgium).
From 1997 to 2015 he was teaching the clarinet, saxophone and ensemble in specialist music schools (DKO, Flemish part-time music education).

He holds a PhD in Arts Sciences (Systematic Musicology), an MA in Music Performance (clarinet) and an MA in Philosophy, and a Teacher Certificate (clarinet, sax, ensemble playing).

His research focuses on the musician‐instrument relationship, on the role of body movement in the instrumental learning processes and on the role of technology in provoking an embodied approach to instrumental music education. For his publications, see here.

His work with the Music Paint Machine was awarded the EAPRIL Best Research and Practice Project Award 2012.

He is a regular invited speaker on music educational seminars at conservatoires and universities across Europe and was selected as member and appointed chair (2017-2021) of the AEC Digitization Working Group. For his agenda, see here

Luc is Associate Editor (Europe, Middle East) for the International Journal of Music in Early Childhood (IJMEC).
He is also member of the scientific committee of ICDS, the International Conference of Dalcroze Studies.
